Winter Golf Hacks
Winter is in full swing, and the freezing cold weather and all that comes with it can make playing golf that bit more difficult. We’ve devised some winter hacks that will help you carry on through the cold and not let the conditions put you off your game.
Keep Your Golf Ball Warm
According to the U.S. Golf Association (USGA), a golf ball will travel 2 yards less for every 10 degree temperature drop. With the temperatures often plummeting over the winter months, it can be extremely frustrating when you play your shots as you usually do but you’re seeing noticeable drops in distance.
A simple, yet effective adjustment to make can be to keep your golf ball warm. Keep it in your pocket until you tee off, give it a quick warm up with your gloved hands and only place it on the tee when you’re ready.

Invest in your Winter Wardrobe
Keep warm, whether it’s on the course or at the driving range. Layering up is an essential part of winter golf and something you can look good doing so.
Our Fleece Back ¼ Zips are perfect as additional layers underneath your gilets and jackets. The ¼ Zip uses stretch material, ensuring layering up doesn’t compromise your performance.
Accessories can make the difference. Small additions to your winter attire such as a Snood or Beanie can make all the difference, and don’t set you back too much following the winter period.

Change of Strategy
Don’t try and play the course the same way you would usually. As mentioned, you may see less distance in your shots, you won’t get as much roll and the conditions of the greens may also provide a challenge. With that in mind, take a different approach, venture out of your comfort zone and see it as a time to develop your game further.
Focus on the Positives
Although the winter months are often associated with the negatives, there are plenty of positives to focus on and give yourself a fresh perspective of the off season.
The colder weather usually results in quieter courses. Arriving at an empty car park, no waiting round for the people in front of you to finish their hole and being able to play at your own pace, doesn’t sound too bad does it? You can even find cheaper prices during the off season, with offers at the driving range and discounted memberships.
Another positive view to take of winter golf, is simply seeing it as a time to practice. With competitions etc being mainly played in the summer, why not take the pressure off and use the colder months to improve certain aspects of your game.
